List of Names of the 12 Disciples


1. Peter (also known as Simon Peter)

2. Andrew (the brother of Simon Peter)

3. James (the son of Zebedee)

4. John (the brother of James)

5. Philip

6. Bartholomew7. Thomas

8. Matthew

9. James (the son of Alphaeus)

10. Jude Thaddaeus (also known as Judas the brother of James)

11. Simon the Zealot

12. Judas Iscariot (who betrayed Jesus)


The Disciple Peter (Simon Peter)


        The Disciple Peter(AKA Simon Peter) was the son of Zebedee and Salome and the brother of James, another of the Twelve Disciples. Simon was called "Rock" (Peter)by Jesus. Peter was the leader of the Disciples, after Jesus'ascension. Peter was a married fisherman who worked with his brother Andrew in Capernaum, fishing in the Sea of Galilee.


The Disciple Andrew


      The Disciple Andrew was Simon Peter's brother. Before Andrew met Jesus, he had been adisciple of John the Baptist and he introduced Peter to Jesus.


The Disciple James


      The Disciple James was the son of Zebedee and the older brother of John the Disciple. James was a fisherman

James and John were called "Sons of Thunder" by Jesus.


The Disciple John


         The Disciple John along with Andrew had been disciples of John the Baptist. James andJohn were called "Sons of Thunder" by Jesus. John was the "beloveddisciple" who sat next to Jesus during the Last Supper.


The Disciple Philip

The Disciple Philip became the sixth disciple of Jesus and introduced Bartholomew to Jesus.Philip went to Samaria where he preached and performed miracles.


The Disciple Bartholomew


         The Disciple Bartholomew (also known as Nathaniel) and is believed to have preached the gospel in Armenia, India, Mesopotania, Persia and Phrygia.


The Disciple Thomas


         The Disciple Thomas(also known as Didymus) from where the term 'Doubting Thomas' isderived because he did not believe in the resurrection and that Jesushad appeared to the other disciples.


The Disciple Matthew


       The Disciple Matthew was formerly a tax collector at Capernaum. Matthew wrote the first book of the New Testament.


The Disciple James (the son of Alphaeus)


          The Disciple James the Less (the son of Alphaeus) was also called "James the Less" and "James the Younger"  who wrote the epistle of James.


The Disciple Jude Thaddaeus

           (also known as Judas, or Jude, the brother of James)

The Disciple Jude Thaddaeus (also known as Judas the brother of James).


The Disciple Simon


        The Disciple Simon was called "the Zealot" was given the authority to cast out unclean spirits and to heal the sick.


The Disciple Judas Iscariot


       The Disciple Judas Iscariot was called "the Twin". Judas betrayed Jesus for30 pieces of silver. During the Last Supper, Jesus foretold of thebetrayal by Judas. He betrayed Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.


The Disciple Matthias


          The Disciple Matthias was chosen to become the 12th Disciple after the death of Judas Iscariot.


The Jesus Disciples - Disciples or Apostles?


What was the difference between the term Disciple and the term Apostle? In the History of Christianity, the term disciple was given to the students of Jesus during his ministry. These special followers of Jesus are referred to as Apostles after the death of Jesus when they moved onto become missionaries.

The name of the Disciple who replaced Judas was Matthias.
