        The prophetesses named in the Bible are women who have claimed to have been encountered by the supernatural or the divine, an interpreter of the will of God.


           This article contains a list of the Women of the Bible who are described asprophets or prophetesses. In religion, a prophet or prophetess, is aperson who has claimed to have been encountered by the supernatural orthe divine, an interpreter of the will of God. A prophet is anauthoritative person who serves as an intermediary with humanity. Aprophecy is a prediction uttered under divine inspiration. There aretwelve women in the Old Testament of the Bible who are described asprophetesses. These women of the Bible were close relatives ofprominent religious leaders and characters of the Old Testament andinclude the mothers, wives and sisters of these famous men of the Bible.
